YAZEL, MICHAEL ("The Captain"/"Captain Yazoo") Obituary

YAZEL, MICHAEL ("The Captain"/"Captain Yazoo"), 65, of Portsmouth, RI and Port Townsend, WA, perished in a canoeing accident.

Born in Lima, OH, he was a son of the late John and Laverne (Benson) Yazel. An accomplished carpenter by day and fantastic dancer by night, Michael was an avid writer and frequent contributor to the Newport Daily News' editorials. Proud of his honorable service in the US Army, he enjoyed life's freedoms and particularly his flamingo collection. He helped establish and organize the annual Woodstock (WA) Winter Festival. His quirky personality and bright blue eyes which endeared him to many will be sorely missed but fondly remembered. Survivors include his dear siblings, Sally of Middletown, and William of the Bristol Veterans' Home.

Services and fellowship with the family are scheduled for Friday, October 10th, beginning at 7:00 pm in Community Baptist Church, 50 West Broadway, Newport after which US Military Honors will be bestowed.
Arrangements entrusted to Michael J. Berarducci, Cremation Care Center, 185 Spring Street, Woonsocket, RI. Please visit www.ProvidenceCremation.com to leave condolences or light a memorial candle for The Captain. YAZEL, MICHAEL ("The Captain"/"Captain Yazoo"),
