Kathleen (Daniels) Case, grand lady, wonderful wife and mother, loyal sister and friend, gracious hostess, elegant entertainer,pioneer fashionista, proud patriot, coffee-loving jokester and faithful servant passed gently into the welcoming arms of her Lord and Savior on August 3, 2016 after a brief period of declining health.

She was born in Providence, RI, to Edward J. and Mary Theresa (McNamara) Daniels and began living life to the fullest at a very young age. As a young but accomplished classical pianist, she traveled to New York at the age of 19 to perform and record works of her favorite classical pianist Chopin. Quite befitting to her charm, grace, and talent, she also entertained diners with her piano music at the former Shepard Co. Tea Room in Providence. She was a proud alumnus of St. Mary’s Academy, Bay View, graduating with high honors.

At age 22 and during World War II, she became the Assistant Station Master at Providence’s Union Station; the first female and youngest person ever to hold such a position. Often sequestered at the Biltmore Hotel she was actively involved in the dispatch, movement, and safety/security of US military troop trains. It was there that she met her ‘knight in shining armor’ riding in on the rails rather than on a white horse: train engineer, Leslie Case arrived into the station and her life driving a silver locomotive! Soon afterward they married and he remained her beloved husband for 40 years until his death in 1982. Together they raised an active family of six children; as a home maker and mother, Kathleen instilled in all h er children the love of her faith and Irish culture. In addition, she loved entertaining – especially holding court and telling jokes, for which she had a special affinity. She delighted many with her keen mind for remembering and with her masterful delivery. She also managed to find time for hat making and frequented second‐hand and consignment shops. A devout Catholic, she was a decades‐long communicant and Lector at Assumption Parish. She also served as an office assistant for over 25 years in the Office of the Bishop at the Cathedral of Sts. Peter and Paul in Providence. In later years she graced and embraced the culture and
clientele at the Cranston Adult Day Care Center and the Scandinavian Home where she endeared herself to many. Kathleen’s family is profoundly grateful for the many acts of kindness shared by caring staff.

Always a willing and pleasant passenger, she thoroughly enjoyed car rides and road trips, particularly those which included stops for a cup or two of coffee; any kind, anytime, anywhere! During every ride, she would always comment on the beautiful sky, no matter what the weather and thank God for all the creatures running on His beautiful earth. She will always be remembered with reverence and fondness for all such good times but especially for elegance of dress and appearance, appropriately accessorized, of course, and most of all for her genuine core goodness and natural class. She would light Up the room when she walked in and her laughter was infectious.

Kathleen leaves her daughter, Rosemarie Coren of Cranston; her sons, Mark and Gregory of Warwick, Christopher of Cranston, and Edward of Newport; and sisters, Ann Marie Hendricks of Coventry,Marie Dubuc of Warwick, and Sr. Angela Daniels, C.P. of Providence. Also surviving her are 22 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, son Stephen, her sister Kelly Dennis, and brothers Michael and Edward.

For the family’s convenience, visitation will be held in Cranston on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jones‐Walton‐Sheridan, 1895 Broad Street. Kathleen’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, 791 Potters Avenue. A private interment will be held at a later date.
